makai

Big Island Called. Ahonui. She would not let me go, nor I, her. I acquiesced.

She astonishes with every dawn, day, sunset and moon. Minutes are magic.

The synchronicity of her golden light and starry night inspires my search for the founding forces of our planet and its life.

Oceanic forces meet volcanic energy.

Her skies my reminder that life, like light, is ephemeral.

SERIES oceana

Inspired by a conversation with my then 5-year-old daughter.

We stood admiring the ocean’s beauty at the glistening shallow inlet at Kukio where the young children play.

Sofia asked “Is it a girl or a boy?”

I asked what she thought and she replied..

“Both - a girl when it’s shallow, playful and sparkling near the shore

and a boy when it get deeper and the waves get scary.”
